Shipments of wearable devices have soared in the last year

Canalys has reported that shipments of smart wearable devices have soared by 640% in the last year, in part thanks to our new obsession with this new category of devices. The report, which shows that Fitbit and Jawbone are clearly leading the pack in the health and lifestyle category, states that Samsung has become the worldwide leader in the smart wearable band market in the first half of 2014 with the release of the Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo and Gear Fit helping them to cement their position. The report also notes that Samsung released its fifth smart wearable in[Read More...]

Samsung, too, considering a circular smartwatch

Samsung, too, considering a circular smartwatch

While the first round of smartwatches were square, and not the most appealing visually, it seems the thirst is now for the round smartwatch. Moto 360 is the first one that we’re likely to see, but others too are jumping on board. LG has a rumoured round watch in the works, and it seems that Samsung is keen on the idea as well. SamMobile has published the news, but there’s (unsurprisingly) very little detail to go with. All we’ve got is that the product is under development, and while it won’t launch alongside the Note 4 and other Gear devices on[Read More...]

More teasers are appearing from Samsung that continue to ask “Are you ready to Note?” This time the minute long advert looks at the S Pen and it’s function in the Galaxy Note environment; from communication, to games, to creativity and general interaction with your Galaxy Note device. Finally closing off with the notable date of September 3rd and the phrase “ready to note” which is the date Samsung are delivering their annual presentation. We know it’s the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, through various leaks it’s unlikely there will be much by way of surprises but the Galaxy Note range[Read More...]

Samsung talks about the construction of the metal framed Galaxy Alpha

Samsung talks about the construction of the metal framed Galaxy Alpha

Samsung recently announced their first metal framed Galaxy phone – the Galaxy Alpha – which was described as ‘the evolution of Galaxy Design’. Overnight, Samsung has spoken about the construction of the phone and how the chasis is milled using computerised numerical control (CNC) machines, from metal to form the frame, while leaving room for the battery and other components. Once ‘Carved’, the frame on the Galaxy Alpha is anodised in the Galaxy Alpha colour scheme of blue, gold, black, silver or white. This anodised process allows the phone to retain the ‘natural shine’ of the metal frame. Then the[Read More...]

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 specs leak out: 4GB of RAM, Snapdragon 805, 4K video and more

Indonesian retailer Erafone appears to have jumped the gun a little by listing the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 on their website. According to Erafone’s website the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will be packing the following specs once it finally announced: 5.7-inch 2560 x 1440 display (515 ppi) 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 or octa-core Exynos with four Cortex-A57 cores and four Cortex-A53 cores (depending on model and[Read More...]

Samsung announces the Galaxy Alpha

Samsung announces the Galaxy Alpha

Samsung has just announced the much hyped Galaxy Alpha, with a metal frame and a solid finish calling it ‘the evolution of Galaxy Design’. The phone is made from plastic, featuring the same dimpled rear that was introduced on the Galaxy S5, but comes with a first for Galaxy Phones – a Metal frame. The phone takes Samsung to a new place with their design aesthetics, but still offers the familiar look and feel of a Galaxy phone. While they’re now offering a metal frame, the Galaxy Alpha still retains the same familiar dimpled plastic rear that was shown off[Read More...]

Rumour: The Galaxy Note 4 appears on Camera

Rumour: The Galaxy Note 4 appears on Camera

Move over blurry-cam, the Galaxy Note 4 appears to have made an early appearance in clear images that GSM Arena received from an anonymous tipster a short time ago. Having had my hands on a Galaxy Note 3 earlier today; the images appear to have a slightly more square edge around the bezel of the phone, the sides appear to be metallic (continuing Samsung’s move away from the light, plastic feel) and sticking with the familiar Samsung home button. The back of the device in the images also appears to be sticking with the faux leather rear of the device[Read More...]

Samsung Galaxy K Zoom — Review

Samsung Galaxy K Zoom — Review

Let’s just get this out of the way now. Touchwiz; you either love it or hate it. My first Android smartphone was the original Samsung Galaxy S I9000 “iPhone killer”. I didn’t mind TouchWiz back then as I had nothing to compare it to, plus it didn’t feel that heavy. As for the current version of TouchWiz running on this device and all new Samsung devices, it’s very heavy. They may have stripped back TouchWiz a bit since the Samsung Galaxy S4 as Chris found out when he reviewed the Samsung Galaxy S5, but it’s still a little heavy for[Read More...]

Samsung and Apple have agreed to stop all litigation outside the US – Australia included

Samsung and Apple have agreed to stop all litigation outside the US – Australia included

It’s been a long legal road for Samsung and Apple, with fights escalating all the way to the High Court in Australia, but as of today that is ending with the two companies announcing they have dropped all ongoing litigation between the two companies. Samsung and Apple have had several stoushes, including the famous case back in 2011 which saw a ‘variant’ of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 sold in Australia after a ruling in the Federal court. The announcement today ends all the ongoing litigation outside the US, which will go ahead at this stage (with up to a billion[Read More...]

Samsung officially invites press to Unpacked 2014 Episode 2 – asks you to ‘NOTE the date’

After SamMobile put up, then took down their post aannouncing an invite to a September 3rd event at IFA, possibly at the behest of the Korean Big Blue, it seems it’s all ok now. Samsung has just publicly announced their ‘Samsung UNPACKED 2014 Episode 2′ event, which will be held in three locations across the globe, in Berlin, Beijing and New York. Samsung is already playing cheeky with the invite, as usual hinting what the announcement will be, asking press to ‘Note the date’, of course hinting that the Galaxy Note 4 will see the light of day at the[Read More...]

Samsung Galaxy Alpha in white shown off with metal frame

Samsung Galaxy Alpha in white shown off with metal frame

With an expected launch sometime this month, the Samsung Galaxy Alpha, has captured the imaginations of many Samsung fans, not because of its high-end specs – it’s decidedly a mid-range phone – but because it’s been described as one of the first Samsung Galaxy phones with a metal frame. Now, pictures of the phone have surfaced on Chinese social media site Weibo ahead of the announcement. The phone appears to have taken more than a couple of design cues from the iPhone, but still retains Galaxy stylings such as the familiar oval home button sitting directly beneath the screen with[Read More...]
