Sony Smartwatch 3 stainless steel band shows up in leaked image

Sony Smartwatch 3 stainless steel band shows up in leaked image

We heard at the Sony Xperia Z3 launch event that Sony would be releasing a stainless steel band for the Smartwatch 3, and this could be it. The above image popped up in a thread at XDA Developers a couple of weeks ago, but escaped wider notice until this week. The poster promises it’s real, but you can make your own mind up about that (there’s a confidential stamp/watermark on it and everything!). The structure isn’t a huge departure from the other bands Sony’s got up its sleeve for the Smartwatch 3, which allows you to pop the main watch[Read More...]

Australian Nexus 6 pre-orders to begin tomorrow on Google Play?

Australian Nexus 6 pre-orders to begin tomorrow on Google Play?

With US pre-orders for the Nexus 6 due to go live in the wee hours of Friday morning, we’ve been wondering whether prospective Australian customers will be included in the fun or not. Google hasn’t actually told us when pre-orders will begin for Australia (but then they seldom do), rumours have put the phone’s release window in December for the UK, while Motorola’s official statement after the launch announcements did say that the phone would be available for pre-orders here before the end of the month. Of course, a pre-order isn’t a promise of delivery by a particular date, either.[Read More...]

Is this HTC Sense 7 with Material Design?

Is this HTC Sense 7 with Material Design?

We’ve all been drooling over the release of Lollipop, Material Design and all the latest Nexus devices over the last few weeks, but now it’s time to turn our attention to HTC‘s Sense Android customisations, and how it’ll look with a Material Design-based UI overhaul. Sense 6 saw a “flatter” design over competitors like Samsung and LG‘s UI layers, so the company was already closer – in a ‘sense’, at least – to the flat design that everyone loved and Google wanted. With Sense 7, HTC seems to want to continue this trend, making their UI blend with the OS’[Read More...]

Motorola 360 pricing for Australia leaked; for sale at $329 AUD

Motorola 360 pricing for Australia leaked; for sale at $329 AUD

While Motorola hasn’t officially made too much noise about the Moto 360 in Australia yet, it seems that the cat might have escaped the bag. Harvey Norman has the Moto 360 listed in its inventory system as ‘Moto 360 Light’ and ‘Moto 360 Dark’, both for the price of $329 AUD. This pricing fits with what we’ve heard elsewhere and it also compares reasonably with the price overseas (adding in that dreaded Australia Tax). The US Dollar price of $249 works out to about $285 AUD, and once you add on GST, that comes to about $312. Not too bad if you[Read More...]

Nexus 6 render appears online courtesy of @evleaks

The Nexus 6 is imminent and despite quite a depressing week, Evan Blass, best known by his online twitter handle @evleaks, has blasted out a leak worthy of Nexus season – the Nexus 6. The leak shows off the Android L design with new icons we first saw in a post from Android Police which confirmed the Nexus 6. There are three folders present on the front screen, labelled ‘Google’, ‘Create’ and ‘Play’, seemingly reminiscent of the updated Mobile Distribution Agreement which was leaked a few weeks ago. The folders are filled with complimentary Google apps – ‘Create’ with Drive,[Read More...]

Rumour: HTC Nexus 9 to launch October 15th for US$399

Rumour: HTC Nexus 9 to launch October 15th for US$399

October is definitely Nexus season and the rumours are flying thick and fast. Specs, launch and release dates and now prices are being thrown around, with Bright Side of News reporting all four pieces of information have been confirmed by their source. According to BSN, the HTC built Nexus 9 will be announced on the 15th of October, before becoming available on the 3rd of November in Google Play (no mention of international availability). BSN do mention the tablet will go on-sale in Bricks & Mortar stores, which would presumably be in the US, although Australia saw quite a run[Read More...]

Redditor claims to have had hands-on time with Nexus 6 – confirms 5.9″ screen and CPU details

Redditor claims to have had hands-on time with Nexus 6 – confirms 5.9″ screen and CPU details

The Nexus 6 is coming soon and it’s apparently in the hands of some carrier staff, with a user on reddit claiming to have had hands-on time with the device. He’s posted screenshots of the CPUID screenshots from the phone on Twitter as proof and is answering questions – vaguely, so as not to out his friend – on the reddit thread. The redditor – lk182 – has shared the CPUID shots on his Twitter feed under the user name @r0fl, and if you’re to believe the screenshots, the phone will have a 2.6GHz Snapdragon 805 CPU with Adreno 420[Read More...]

Rumoured monster phablet from Sony hits the AnTuTu treadmill, struts its stuff

Rumoured monster phablet from Sony hits the AnTuTu treadmill, struts its stuff

It looks like Sony has been busy in Dr. Frankenstein’s lab. New benchmarks have surfaced via AnTuTu of a device dubbed the Xperia Z3X, and the specs are rather beastly. According to the AnTuTu benchmark, Sony have managed to shoehorn a 6.2″ screen with QHD (2,560 x 1,440) resolution and a gargantuan 4GB of RAM into this rumoured successor to the Xperia Z Ultra, paired with Qualcomm’s 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810 chipset and Adreno 430 GPU. Android 4.4.2 rounds off the list, though we’d hope to see Android 4.4.4 if this device makes it to market. But wait, there’s more! Sony seems to[Read More...]

Motorola Nexus X “Shamu” shows up on Geekbench offering decent Multi-Core benchmarks

Motorola Nexus X “Shamu” shows up on Geekbench offering decent Multi-Core benchmarks

Nexus 6. Nexus X. Shamu. They’re the key words we’re looking for at the moment regarding Google’s next phone launch and you take what information you see regarding them generally with a grain of salt. This time a device claiming to be the Nexus X “Shamu” has been benchmarked on Geekbench and if it is the next Nexus phone, it doesn’t look too bad. Let’s just start by saying how easy it is to fake these results, it’s a piece of cake. If the results are real however, then the signs are good that the phone could be quite the[Read More...]

Google rumoured to be looking at developing a WhatsApp style messaging system

Google rumoured to be looking at developing a WhatsApp style messaging system

Remember when Google basically merged all their messaging clients – Google Talk, Drive Chat, etc – into one client called Hangouts? Well, according to a rumour, they might be looking into developing a new one, but based on the WhatsApp model, where a Google sign-in would not be required. The rumour which stems from the Economic Times of India, is based off a visit to India by Director of Hangouts, Photos, Google+ core & Platform, Nikhyl Singhal. According to the Times, Mr Singhal is apparently doing a tour of India, as well as other countries in the region looking at[Read More...]

Specs for the HTC Desire ‘Eye’ selfie phone apparently leaked

The HTC ‘Double Exposure’ event on the 8th of October is rumoured to be to launching their GoPro style action camera the ReCamera, as well as a selfie style phone with, obviously an emphasis on the front-facing camera. Leaker @Upleaks, has apparently come across some of the features for the phone and released them on twitter last night. The phone will be in the Desire line, which in a return to the high-life of the original Desire, will actually contain some fairly high-end specs. The phone will be known as the HTC Desire Eye, or ‘Eye’ for short and will[Read More...]

Nexus 6 appears to appear in the wild

Nexus 6 appears to appear in the wild

We had a sneak peak at the Nexus 6 the other day, but it seems that it’s busted out of its confines and made an appearance out in public as well, as shown in the photograph above. What do we know? Not much. The photos, courtesy of Android Police, show that the phone is in a snap-on case of some description (presumably to protect the identifying features a little) so we don’t have a good look at the outline of the phone’s case. From what we can see, though, the power and volume buttons are more centred on the right[Read More...]

Rumour – Next LG smartwatch may work independently from smartphone

Rumour – Next LG smartwatch may work independently from smartphone

The LG G Watch R has not even officially arrived in Australia and rumours of yet another LG smartwatch have surfaced. We have already seen the original LG G Watch as reviewed by Daniel and the Moto 360 is due here in October/November, so it’s a bit of a surprise to see another LG smartwatch possibly on the horizon. FCC documents suggest LG may be working on version three of their smartwatch range which will come with a built-in 3G CDMA radio. If this rumour is correct, it would be in direct competition to the recently released Samsung Gear S[Read More...]
