This morning, Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 owners currently playing around with the Android L preview launched at Google I/O, were greeted by the happy news that there were newly updated images available to download from the Android Developers preview page. With a raft of issues and feature requests from the Android Developer Preview issues tracker marked as closed with an entry of ‘Will appear in the next build’ or similar, you’d be forgiven for thinking some new goodies await, not so. Google makes updated Android L preview images available for Nexus 5 and Nexus 7

Google has posted updated factory images for the Android L developer preview, which is available today for Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 owners. When we first saw the developer preview posted, we found ourselves wondering whether we’d see updates before the platform’s official launch later this year, and it seems our questions have now been answered. Alongside the launch of the Google Fit SDK, the new build’s arrival — build number LPV81C — sees the integration of Google Fit functionality into the platform preview. What else is new? No one really knows just yet. We’ll be downloading the new version[Read More...]

How to fix missing buttons and a broken notification shade on Android L

How to fix missing buttons and a broken notification shade on Android L

I found that the first time I flashed Android L, a curious bug appeared — my home and recents buttons disappeared, and the notification shade refused to slide down. It seems I’m not alone; this bug only appears when upgrading/flashing Android L without wiping. It’s not clear exactly why this happens, but the good thing is that it’s relatively easy to fix. If you find your Nexus 5 or Nexus 7 behaving this way, a quick ADB shell command will get it working properly again. If you’ve flashed Android L, we’re assuming you’re familiar with how to use ADB, so here’s[Read More...]

Motorola’s Punit Soni confirms that the Moto X will receive Android L

One of the benefits to consumers of having Google purchase Motorola, was that their phones began receiving updates to the latest version of Android fast, in some cases even faster than Nexus phones. Google Glass updated to XE19.1 – adds cleaner visual interface and better connectivity

Google Glass updated to XE19.1 – adds cleaner visual interface and better connectivity

The international rollout for Glass has begun, so far expanding to the UK, but it will reach our shores eventually. With that in mind, we’re keen to watch development of the platform and today Google has rolled out their latest update – XE19.1. It’s not a massive update, in fact the Support page only lists two updates – Improved connectivity and a Cleaner look. You can judge whether you feel this is a ‘cleaner look’ yourself from the screenshot provided: Improved connectivity consists of better handling when occasional network issues interrupt your commands. This is mainly to do with when[Read More...]

Google posts Android 4.4.4r2 Factory Image & Binaries for Telstra Nexus 5

Google posts Android 4.4.4r2 Factory Image & Binaries for Telstra Nexus 5

Google has today posted an update on their Factory Images page for the Nexus 5. Designated Android 4.4.4r2 with build KTU84Q, the release is very specifically for the Nexus 5 on Telstra as well as for carrier 2Degrees in New Zealand and the Nexus 5 in India. As well as the factory image, Google has released binaries for the new build as well. Its an oddly specific release and shows some carrier specific fragmentation. We’ll be following up with Telstra to see if we can find out what inclusions are being wrapped up in this release.
